Escher Cube (Fish)
The surface of the cube shows a total of 12 entangled fish. Each of the four
differently coloured fish show only three times. The graphic design is based on the artwork
Symmetry No. 20
by M.C. Escher.
Due to the application of the image on a 3-D object, only three dorsal fins meet
at the upper right corner instead of four like in Escher's original drawing.
A cube similar to this version, was created first in 1996 by
«Klodshans» a.k.a. Philip Knudsen. The texture for this cube was completely redrawn in
2009 by Walter Randelshofer.
M.C. Escher (1898-1972) was a Dutch graphic artist, most recognized for
spatial illusions, impossible buildings, repeating geometric patterns (tessellations), and his
incredible techniques in woodcutting and lithography.
